CCS
manages the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) for the north
central area of London. It comprises approximately 120km of trunk
road in Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, City of London, Camden,
Islington, parts of Haringey, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. The network
includes the busiest and most restricted roads in the country and
arguably the world.
The significance of the area, and the sheer volume of traffic and
density of development, make the day-to-day management issues extremely
challenging.

The
population is exceptionally diverse with every colour, race and
creed represented. Conspicuous wealth and poverty exist side by
side. National and local press and pressure groups are present in
unprecedented numbers and all issues are subject to intense, vigorous
and persistent scrutiny.
In view of all these considerations, the maintenance of the highway
infrastructure has to be of the highest order. CCS is adept at responding
to the range of issues arising from this highly demanding task.
The Stewardship Team maintains the signing and road markings required
to enforce traffic movements on the TLRN road network.
