The LCN+ Project Management team are responsible for improving conditions
for cycling on a 900-kilometre network of London’s key commuter
roads, in line with the Mayor of London’s Cycling Action Plan.
With the initial target of achieving a 200% increase in the number
of cyclists in London already surpassed, we are aiming to build
on this by continuing to advise the 33 London boroughs on how to
improve cycling infrastructure on their roads. By effectively liasing
with major stakeholders such as local cycling groups, Borough Cycling
Officers and Transport for London, we can ensure that all will have
agreed on the solutions reached.
Our services also include supporting the boroughs in bidding for
funding, reporting performance to Transport for London and producing
an annual report which details the work carried out over all of
London in order to create a high quality, consistent network for
cyclists.

This is being achieved by implementing
various measures to improve safety and comfort whilst providing
a relatively short journey time, such as: providing greater priority
at junctions for cyclists, minimising conflict with other road users
and reducing general traffic speeds where appropriate. The network
was aligned to target high-density routes such as those to tube
and rail stations, schools and places of business and much of the
work concentrates on these areas as these represent potential conflict
points.
With the project due to end in 2009/10, we are working hard to
provide high quality cycle routes that meet the three key criteria
of the LCN+ - to make cycling fast, safe and comfortable.
