Frequently Asked Questions

How do I search through diagrams according to their appearance?

Faced with an unknown sign use the Query Diagrams drop-downs to select appearance characteristics that best match the sign. The sign in the diagram database can be queried in terms of:

  • Type – a general classification of signs which follows closely the Schedules within the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2002.
  • Background Colour – the colour used for the background of the sign
  • Border Colour – the colour used around the edge of the sign
  • Shape – the signs shape
  • Text – text included in the sign
  • Symbols – symbols included in the sign

Click Find to perform a query of the diagram database. Diagrams that match the appearance characteristics selected will be displayed in the viewing window on the left.

If more than one diagram matches your query use the Next Image and Previous Image buttons to view each diagram in turn.

If the number of diagram numbers matching your query is too high, make use of additional query drop-downs and click Find again to narrow down the list of possible matches further.

TSR's Sign Query interface

How do I switch between searching through signs and searching through road markings?
You can switch to searching road markings by clicking on the Road Markings Tab near the top of the Query Diagrams box.
How do I search by diagram number?
If you know all or part of the diagram number you can search the diagram database using the Search by Diagram Number input box (below) and clicking Find. To start a new query click Clear to blank the input box.
How can I copy a diagram number quickly so I can use it in another application?
Whilst viewing a particular diagram it’s number can be quickly copied using the Copy Diagram # button. The number can then be pasted into any other document.
How do I view additional information related to a particular diagram?
Each diagram in the database has additional information that applies to it. This includes regulations, directions, similar diagrams, permitted variants and illumination requirements.

These are included in a table in the Information box; to view the relevant regulations click the Regulations radio button, to view relevant directions click the Directions radio button and so on.

The information can also be viewed in its entirety in PDF format by clicking on one of the >>> buttons to the right of the information.

This will open a PDF viewer with the relevant page of the TSRGD displayed.

The Pages column displays the number of pages of information there are relating to a particular diagram. Use the Previous and Next buttons to navigate between pages. Click on the + and - buttons to zoom in and zoom out.

Can Traffic Signs Regulations ™ work with AutoCAD?

The current version of TSR does not interact with AutoCAD. However, it does give you all information which you need to make sure the design of a sign is compliant with Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 (TSRGD 2002).

While this is true, future versions of the software will integrate relevant chapters of Traffic Sign Manual ( i.e.. Chapter  7 the Design of Traffic Signs) via an AutoCAD Plug-in.

The current version is aimed towards the primary document only ( TSRGD 2002), and does not provide interaction with any other design software.
